12 rules for life

I began to read this book without knowing who Jordan Peterson was, a Psychologist friend of mine. I was pulled in immediately it was like a compilation of every great lecture I had heard in my life fused with every motivational speech I could remember. He has countless hours of lectures on YouTube and has a podcast that is equally as engrossing.

I have read the book twice and regularly listen to his podcast while in my woodshop.

The fundamental truths listed as 12 rules are not his rules or his take on life but they are universal truths that he unpacks in consumable doses.

THE BOY CRISIS

This book completely changed my perspective on raising boys. It threw light into some blindspots I had, really opened my mind to the bias’ that I didn’t realize I had and changed my approach that I took to treating my sons.

Google Warren Farrell and John Gray before you buy the book - their professional history is reason enough to delve in to this writing. Written from an overwhelming amount of clinically founded research and study each chapter is easy to read and I found myself going on further research rabbit holes after each section. It’s more of an encyclopedia of history that led us to where we are now with raising boys, a critical read.

Raise your own damn kids

The title doesn’t do it justice. A super funny look at what a creative Dad feels is needed to be a good one. Chad Harris is a comedian and devoted father who makes a great book to make you think about the ‘tools’ you have around you everyday to be a creative, funny, entertaining Dad.

The book is perfectly illustrated to capture the take and perspective we should have on fatherhood - the tone of the book is great for making something Dads stress over simplified. Raise your own damn kids is a great perspective changer and written by an all around solid guy.

Chad is a guest on our podcast so look for his episode.
